2026 Half-Yearly Box Office classification: Dhurandhar 2 is an All Time Blockbuster; Border 2 Super-Hit, Bhooth Bangla a Hit

The first half of 2026 has been an eventful period for the Hindi film box office. While the industry witnessed a wide range of releases across genres, scales and star combinations, the commercial picture becomes particularly interesting when one looks at the classification of some of the key titles that arrived in cinemas between January and June.

2026 Half-Yearly Box Office classification: Dhurandhar 2 is an All Time Blockbuster; Border 2 Super-Hit, Bhooth Bangla a Hit

Bollywood Hungama’s half-yearly box office classification of select 2026 releases offers a clear snapshot of how the market behaved in the first six months. The trend is evident: event films and franchise-driven entertainers continued to dominate the theatrical landscape, while several mid-range films found it difficult to convert visibility into decisive box office success.

The biggest title in this classification is undoubtedly Dhurandhar - The Revenge. Starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun, the film emerged as an All Time Blockbuster with a reported lifetime collection of Rs. 1108.09 crore. Its performance single-handedly altered the complexion of the half-yearly numbers and reaffirmed that when a big-screen spectacle truly connects, the audience still turns up in massive numbers.

The second major success story was Border 2, led by Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Sonam Bajwa and Medha Rana. The film earned a Super-Hit classification with a reported lifetime of Rs. 341.70 crore. Backed by patriotic emotion, franchise recall and scale, Border 2 became one of the most important box office performers of the first half of 2026.

Among the other major positive performers, Bhooth Bangla stood out. Headlined by Akshay Kumar and Wamiqa Gabbi, the horror-comedy was classified as a Hit with Rs. 168.26 crore. Its performance underlined the continued strength of horror-comedy as a theatrical genre when supported by star presence, humour and mainstream appeal. Another notable title in the profitable zone was The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond. The film collected Rs. 40.60 crore and secured a Semi-Hit classification.

Another film that remained under close watch was Welcome To The Jungle, starring Akshay Kumar and Disha Patani. The film had collected Rs. 120.59 crore at the time of reporting. However, since it was still only 13 days into its theatrical run, the verdict is Awaited. Its final classification will depend on how it performs in the days ahead and where its lifetime total eventually settles.

The mid-range performers formed a significant part of the classification. Cocktail 2, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, collected Rs. 90.60 crore and was classified as Average. Main Vaapas Aaunga, featuring Diljit Dosanjh and Sharvari, ended at Rs. 59.57 crore, also securing an Average verdict due to its high cost. Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, led by Ayushmann Khurrana, finished at Rs. 48.16 crore and also received an Average verdict. Similarly, Mardaani 3, led by Rani Mukerji, registered Rs. 53.06 crore and was classified as Average. In the comedy and romance space, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde, collected Rs. 49.85 crore and earned an Average classification. Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, led by Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, finished at Rs. 48.35 crore and also landed in the Average category.

The classification also includes titles that could not live up to expectations. O’ Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, collected Rs. 59.90 crore but was classified as a Flop. This is an important reminder that verdicts are not determined by collections alone. Cost, recovery, scale, pre-release expectations and market positioning play an equally crucial role. Other underperformers included Ikkis, starring Agastya Nanda and Simar Bhatia, which collected Rs. 28.38 crore, and Chand Mera Dil, featuring Lakshya and Ananya Panday, which ended at Rs. 27.78 crore. Both films were classified as Flop.

As the second half of 2026 unfolds, the industry will be hoping for not just more blockbusters, but also a healthier spread of Hits and Semi-Hits across genres and budgets.
