The Sanjay Dutt biopic titled Sanju that features Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role released a couple of weeks ago. Since then the Rajkumar Hirani directorial has been raking in the moolah at both the domestic and international box office. In fact, after hitting a total of 5300+ screens (domestic 4000 + overseas 1300+) the business of Sanju has continued to see growth with audience patronizing the film in multiplex dominated metros and mass sectors as well.
Now after its third weekend running, Sanju that hit screens simultaneously worldwide has managed to become one of the highest grossing Bollywood films. With a massive Rs. 406.18 cr gross coming in from the domestic market and another Rs. 122.29 cr gross from the overseas markets, the total gross collections of Sanju are currently pegged at a staggering Rs. 528.47 cr gross.
Interestingly, though the domestic gross business of Sanju has far surpassed the collections of the previously released Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Padmaavat, the film’s overseas collections still lag behind. It is thanks to this difference in overseas collections why Padmaavat that has managed to collect Rs. 571.98 cr gross worldwide still retains the top slot as the highest worldwide grosser of 2018.
However, given the fact that Sanju still continues to enjoy the audiences’ favour with people flocking theatres, expectations are that Sanju will eventually close the gap inching closer to the total business of Padmaavat. Now all that remains to be seen is whether the overall gross collections of Sanju manage to surpass that of Padmaavat.
