Last week on Friday we saw the release of two starkly different films with Half Girlfriend and Hindi Medium hitting screens. While Half Girlfriend was directed by Mohit Suri starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, Hindi Medium was helmed by Saket Chaudhary starring Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar. From the two, Half Girlfriend that released with a screen count of 2500 screens was expected to take the lead over Hindi Medium that opted for a more targeted release across 1126 screens.
In this box office report we take a look at the collections of both Half Girlfriend and Hindi Medium while comparing the same to the top grossers of 2017. Not surprisingly, Half Girlfriend that has managed to establish a connect with the audience in smaller towns and cities has managed to claim the sixth spot on the list with a collection of Rs. 37.15 cr. On the other hand Hindi Medium that managed to draw in just Rs. 15.71 cr ranks as the fourteenth highest grosser of 2017.
Interestingly though, while both films manage to claim position in this list with just their weekend collections, Half Girlfriend and Hindi Medium are expected to grow further in terms of business as the week progresses. But, considering that Half Girlfriend has received mixed reaction, the film will have to rely on positive audience feedback in the coming days, while Hindi Medium whose reactions have been rather positive is expected to fare better.
As for the list of top grossers, though Half Girlfriend doesn’t manage to surpass the other big ticket releases like Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion that collected Rs. 432.8 cr, Raees that collected Rs. 137.51 cr, Jolly LLB 2 that collected Rs. 117 cr, Badrinath Ki Dulhania that collected Rs. 116.68 cr and Kaabil that collected Rs. 103.84 cr, it does fare better than Naam Shabana that collected Rs. 36.76 cr, Phillauri that collected Rs. 27.1 cr, Commando 2 that collected Rs. 25.09 cr and Ok Jaanu that collected Rs. 23.64 cr.
