The Advait Chandan directed film Secret Superstar hit screens in India in 2017, but across the border the film that starred Aamir Khan released earlier this year. Though Secret Superstar witnessed a much delayed release in this overseas market the film has been doing stellar business. Now after its 18 day run at the Chinese box office the total overseas collections of Secret Superstar have managed to cross the USD 100 million mark.
While Secret Superstar managed to collect just USD 6.48 million [Rs. 41.72 cr] from its release in multiple overseas markets, the Chinese release of the film saw the collections of Secret Superstar skyrocket. In fact, the business of the Aamir Khan release in China has recorded a staggering collection of USD 93.62 million [Rs. 602.67 cr] in just 18 days. This coupled with the collections from other overseas territories has propelled the total oversees collections of Secret Superstar past the USD 100 million mark.
However, despite seeing such mammoth collections Secret Superstar does not top the charts as the highest overseas grosser. In fact, claiming the top spot as the highest overseas grosser is Aamir Khan’s previous release Dangal that had raked in a stupefying USD 230.08 million. On the other hand, claiming the second spot on the list of highest overseas grossers, the business of Secret Superstar has managed to surpass the collections of other releases like PK that collected USD 47.2 million, Dhoom 3 that collected USD 31.1 million, Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan that collected USD 29 million, and Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale that collected USD 25.6 million.
But given the fact that Secret Superstar still continues to run in the Chinese market expectation are that the film will manage to add a little more to its overall overseas box office collections.
