While it’s a regular trend that South Indian films are dubbed in Hindi language for a wider audience, there has been a role reversal this time around. The Mallika Sherawat – Rekha starrer Bach Ke Rehna Re that released in 2005 is now dubbed in Telugu and was released in Andhra Pradesh on August 10. The film is titled Theneteegalu which in Telugu means honeybees.
While the Hindi version that released in 2005 was a big disaster, what’s surprising is that the dubbed version is doing good business in the Telugu speaking belt. Says a source from South, “The film has got a fantastic opening which is only because of Mallika’s glamour and fame. The distributors seem to be very happy. You see, it’s not a joke to gain profits from a Hindi dubbed film. This is a rare occasion and can be credited only to Mallika’s unimaginable stardom”.
The rights of the film for the Telugu dubbing were brought from Boney Kapoor. Interestingly Bach Ke Rehna Re itself is a remake of the Hollywood film Heartbreakers.
Adds the source, “The opening is as good as what Chiranjeevi’s films get in Andhra Pradesh”. And come to think of it Chiranjeevi is the undisputed king of Telugu cinema whose movies open to packed houses. That certainly makes Mallika a big hit down south.
