Rape case against Madhur Bhandarkar weakens further Click here to add this article to My Clips

By Joginder Tuteja, March 29, 2007 - 07:05 IST

Two and a half years back, the nation was shocked to hear reports about acclaimed film maker Madhur Bhandarkar being accused by a rising starlet Prettii Jaiin with rape charges.

But Madhur can now heave a sigh of relief as he has been granted permission by a session’s court in Mumbai to go out of the country without prior approval. This comes in the wake of Madhur's argument that the police had found the complaint lodged against him by Jaiin to be false.

Though Madhur was granted anticipatory bail on July 30, 2004 after Jaiin lodged a case against him on July 21, 2004, the court had placed some restrictions as his name was put in "observation list" at the passport office. Simply put, this meant that he had to seek prior permission before going abroad. With current developments working in Madhur's favor, his name has now been dropped from the "observation list".

Also notable is the fact that earlier even High Court had mentioned that Madhur being falsely implicated in the case couldn't be ruled out.

On asked about his reaction to the order, a composed Madhur Bhandarkar said, "What can I really say here? It has been a harrowing experience during all these months. It has been my faith in the judiciary and the law of the country that has kept me going on amidst all the troubles and controversies. The truth had to prevail and progress like this only keeps my resolve further strong. I am thankful to all my supporters who have showed faith with me and have stayed on with me for all these months."
