Sahara One Sangeet Awards felicitate Lata Mangeshkar

The jury of the 2nd Sahara One Sangeet Awards conferred the Legend honor for 2005 upon Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar at a glittering function on August 30 at J.W. Marriott, Juhu. Jaya Bachchan presented the award to Lata Didi at an exclusive felicitation ceremony that was attended by the nominees [film and pop music] of Sahara One Sangeet Awards 2005, along with stalwarts of the music and film industry.
Adorned with gold and precious stones, the Sahara One Sangeet Awards 2005 trophy specially crafted by D’damas was revealed amidst great fanfare and was presented to Lata Didi. On receiving the Legend honor, Lata Didi was truly humbled to see the music and film fraternity come together as one, to pay her this prestigious tribute.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Lal, MD and CEO, PDM International, said, “Lata-ji’s reign over the world of playback singing is undisputed. She has lent her voice to heroines across generations… from Madhubala to Sridevi to Preity Zinta. She is indeed a true living legend and undeniably the supreme voice of Indian music.”
Speaking on behalf of the jury, Ramesh Sippy said, “Lata-ji is the ideal exponent of everything to do with music. Her talent transcends time. She can convey every emotion through her voice. In Indian film music, there cannot be anything greater than her and her contribution to India’s musical heritage is irrefutable.”
The 2nd Sahara One Sangeet Awards, which will be held on September 24 at the Oakland Arena in Oakland [off San Francisco], California, U.S.A., will witness over 120 members from the Indian film and music fraternity coming together in one spirit to celebrate the richness of Indian music on a global platform. The awards will be telecast on Sahara One Television, who are partnering this initiative for the second time.
