The terrific advance booking was an indicator that AGNEEPATH would embark on a humungous start at the ticket window. And the unanimous praise soon after the first screening of the film concluded on Monday night [which was attended by the cast and crew of the film as well as this writer] was another pointer that Karan Johar's big-ticket film was poised for a super-successful innings at the box-office.
Released all over India on Thursday, 26 January, AGNEEPATH fetched one of the biggest starts ever for a Hindi film. Be it the single screens or multiplexes, the occupancy was 95% to 100% almost everywhere. In terms of numbers, the film is expected to accumulate a massive total at the end of Day 1 in India.
The biggest opener ever is BODYGUARD [Rs 21.6 cr nett; opened on Wednesday, 31 August 2011] and as per initial trends, AGNEEPATH is expected to cross the magical figure of Rs 21.5 cr + nett mark.
Note:- BODYGUARD had a major factor going in its favor: Since the running time was approx 132 minutes, the plexes were performing 28 to 30 shows every single day, while AGNEEPATH has lesser number of shows at plexes [compared to BODYGUARD] due to the running time of approx 170 minutes. On the other hand, AGNEEPATH has had a bigger release than BODYGUARD in terms of screen count, so that should benefit AGNEEPATH.
